The Role

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving beverages in a hospital café environment while delivering a positive and supportive experience to patients, visitors, and staff. This role emphasizes consistency in beverage preparation, adherence to health and safety standards, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace within a healthcare setting.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Previous barista or food service experience
  • Experience in a healthcare or hospital setting
  • Knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., HACCP principles)
  • Familiarity with POS systems

Main Functions

  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, tea, and other drinks according to standardized recipes
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in compliance with hospital and food safety standards
  • Ensure proper use, care, and basic maintenance of coffee equipment and café work areas
  • Restock beverage supplies and monitor inventory levels to support daily operations
  • Follow all infection control, hand hygiene, and workplace safety protocols
  • Maintain a calm and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff
  • Identify and report equipment issues or operational concerns to leadership

Working Conditions

  • Standing for long periods
  • Early morning, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required
  • Fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality

Preferred

  • Prior barista or food service experience
  • Experience working in a healthcare or hospital setting
  • Knowledge of food safety standards
